Halfway Through 31 Days of Halloween

We are halfway through our 31 Days of Halloween Fun – and honestly, it’s been equal parts laughter, and a few”I don’t have it in me” moments. Which let’s be real, is king of what makes it all perfect.

This month wasn’t about doing everything; it was about bring our focus back to what matters – slowing down, dimming the noice, and simply enjoying the season. Some nights we went all in; others, we crashed on the couch and called it a win. Either way, memories have been made.

Day 1 – We kicked things off with a few porch decorations.

Day 2 – Spooky Mad Libs which turned out to be a favorite (I promised I wouldn’t post pics that the boys were in…I may get in trouble for the one above. Halloween memes were fun

Day 3 – We may have had a bit too much fun with Halloween filters.

Day 4 – Halloween memes were perfect as one of the boys was out of town and could still participate.

Day 5 – The haunted cocoa bar was meh. It was still warm outside and even though everyone participated it wasn’t the hit I thought it would be..

4 cups, 4 bowls filled with goodies, cocoa packets on a granite countertop.

Day 7 – We watched It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. One of my all time favorites. When I was around 8 I had the book and a record and would listen to it ALL.THE.TIME. This one has always been and will continue to be a Halloween must do.

Day 8 – Scary soundtrack night was a hit – everyone picked three songs each: Can you guess who picked what?

Song Title Artist
Cry Little SisterGerard McMann (Gotta love those Lost Boys)
Tubular BellsMike Oldfield (From “The Exorcist”)
The Headless HorsemanBing Crosby
Dead Man’s PartyOingo Boingo
Monster MashBobby “Boris” Pickett
ThrillerMichael Jackson
Somebody’s Watching MeRockwell
Psycho KillerTalking Heads
Pet SemataryRamones

Day 9 – Candlelight dinner with the spooky music was everyone’s favorite by far. The boys even asked to turn down the music because it was a bit creepy. We decided we would have more candlelight dinners in the dining room in the future, sans the spooky music.

A cozy Halloween scene featuring carved pumpkins with glowing faces, one wearing a witch's hat, surrounded by white candles and autumn leaves.

Day 10 – Zombie Cocktails were fun – I found “blood bags” at the Dollar Store and filled it with vanilla vodka, sprite and cranberry. My oldest had no objections.

Day 14 – For the classic Halloween movie we selected “The Creature from the Black Lagoon”. Yes, a bit hokey but a nod to the past and we had an hour and 20 minutes of uninterrupted family time.

A vintage movie poster for 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' featuring a creature emerging from water, holding a woman in a white dress.

Day 15 – We wrapped up the first half of our 31 days decorating pumpkins. AND we didn’t have to gut them. Dollar store came through and I love how they turned out.

The Takeaway (So Far)

Sixteen days in, I’ve learned that it’s not about sticking perfectly to the plan – it’s about making space for laughter, creativity, and even quiet nights when we forgo the plan.

Here’s to the next half of the spooky season. Stay tuned – things are about to get even creepier.

You can still get a printable of the original list here. I’ve made modifications as needed based on schedule conflicts. Flexibility is key!
